Terms of Service

1. What this is

DonutLauncher is a launcher for Minecraft: Java Edition. It downloads and starts a copy of the game that you already own, manages separate game folders called instances, scans mod files before you run them, and analyses crash logs. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Mojang Studios, Microsoft, or any server or mod it interoperates with.

2. Your licence to use it

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and run DonutLauncher on computers you own or control, for as many people as use those computers, at no charge. You may keep as many copies as you like, including on a machine you build yourself from the source.

You may not:

• sell, rent, sublicense or bundle DonutLauncher as part of a paid product or service;
• present it as your own work, or remove the notices that say whose work it is;
• distribute a modified build under the same name, or imply that a modified build is an official release;
• use it to break the rules of a Minecraft server, Mojang's own terms, or the law where you live.

3. Minecraft is not included

The launcher does not give you the game. You need a Minecraft: Java Edition licence on a Microsoft account, and the game itself is downloaded from Mojang's own servers under their terms, not ours. Nothing here grants you any right to Minecraft, its assets, its name or its art. If your account is suspended by Mojang, the launcher cannot help you — that decision is entirely theirs.

4. Cheating, and why the launcher blocks things

DonutLauncher recognises and blocks a set of cheat clients and cracked builds, and quarantines jars that its scanner identifies as malicious. This is a safety feature, not permission: it is not a promise that what remains is allowed on any particular server. The rules you agreed to when you joined a server are yours to keep, and the launcher cannot see them. Using the launcher to cheat — on a server, in a tournament, against other players — is a breach of these terms.

5. The scanner is advice, not a guarantee

The malware scanner reads files statically and reports what it found. A clean report means the rules in that build of the launcher matched nothing — it does not mean a file is safe, and a hostile file specifically written to avoid the rules may pass. You are still the person choosing to run somebody else's code. The project is not liable for the consequences of that choice.

6. Updates

The launcher may check for, download and install updates, and may tell you that a version is no longer supported. Updates are delivered as signed release files and are covered by these terms. We may also change or remove features at any time, and a version you are running may stop working with the online parts of the service if it is left un-updated for long enough.

7. No warranty

DonutLauncher is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. No warranty is given that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will not damage a world, a mod folder or an installation. Back up what matters to you — which is good advice for Minecraft regardless of which launcher starts it.

8. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the project and everyone who contributed to it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, worlds, accounts, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of DonutLauncher. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the software, which is nothing.

9. Data

What the launcher stores and what it sends is described in the privacy notice, with a switch for every category that leaves your machine. That page is part of these terms.

10. Ending this agreement

You can end it at any time by uninstalling the launcher and deleting %APPDATA%\DonutLauncher. We may end it if these terms are broken — most obviously by redistributing the software commercially or using it to attack other players. Nothing in this section obliges us to police anybody.

11. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the project does. The version that applies to you is the one shipped with the build you are running, and every build that changes them says so at launch and in the changelog. Continuing to use a build after accepting its terms is acceptance of them.
